Perhaps your holidays are the most suitable moment of the year to do some tasting. The green and undulating hills and good fertile soil combined with a great climate form perfect circumstances to grow high-quality and biological produce. Most of it is sold locally.
This is exactly what the Barberani family makes. You can find them at ten minutes driving from the campsite. Barberani is one of the renowned wine-producers in Umbria of mainly Orvieto Classico DOC, but also Grechetto, the Castognolo, the Luigi e Giovanna (named after the grandchildren), the red Foresco and the Sagrantino. Every day, with the exception of the weekend, you are welcome for a tasting. Barberani produces its wines completely biologically from beginning to end. In the vineyard no engine-driven tools are used to avoid the grapes from becoming damaged. Therefore Barberani goes a step further than the average biological wine producer.
Try the Castognolo or Grechetto which we also sell at the mini-market in the campsite, but you will not find them in the supermarkets. In the picture on the right-hand side: Nicola Barberani with a nice bottle of Castognolo.
Camping Il Falcone is situated in an olive-oil-producing area. Our oil is getting better and better every year. This mainly has to do with the maturity of the olive-trees. We sell extra vergine olive-oils that are superior. Most guests that have bought a bottle mail us later in the year they shouldn't have been so modest. However, you won't find these products in the shops because the yield very often is so modest that putting up a sales apparatus is not a sensible thing to do. In case we are alreay sold out: ask for the 'hottest' addresses at the reception.
In nearby Montecchio you will find Vecchia Frantoio, meaning 'old factory', where a small museum is accommodated on the production of olive-oil in this region throughout the years. You can also taste and buy their products.
You might combine it with dinner of lunch at La Locanda, where Luciano is ready to put delicious biological produce on his grill.
