Introduction

We started Camping Il Falcone in 1997 (the name of campsite is derived from falconry, which was practised in medieval times at the castles in the surroundings) with the philosophy that there are enough massive campsites around in Umbria and that instead, we would aim at the holidaymaker who appreciates a fair-sized pitch on a quiet small-scale campsite in Umbria in the middle of nature.

That's exactly what we have tried to build up. The campsite has a fabulous view (look at how many times people mentioned this in the guestbook), modern and clean amenities, a swimming-pool, a bar/terrace with local products amongst other things our own olive-oil, a small shop ... and not much else.

An intimate and quiet campsite between the olive-trees

Our mini-campsite offers no animation, just a table-tennis table. No bars, disco or cinema can be found here or in the near vicinity. The medieval village of Civitella del Lago - walking there is easy and takes about ten to fifteen minutes, by car it's two minutes - has a very good pizzeria and a topclass restaurant plus a few shops, but that's it. Sorry about that. However, over the years we have found that our philosophy attracts couples and young families who come here to take a rest and at the same time have an excellent starting-point to see a lot of Umbria and Tuscany. And we love to have that type of guests in our campsite. So we're not really sorry ☺. We're even very happy as it is. As long as you are happy with us, of course.

Proper facilities and cool nights

The campsite's facilities include fresh water and electricity at every pitch. The swimming-pool is non-chlorine, current is mainly generated by solar-panels. We care about the environment and are proud of our Ospitalità Italiana award.

The altitude of over 500 metres is responsible for the fact that the nights are cool, even in the high season. The campsite also hardly suffers from flying insects, because the lake is 400 metres below the campsite (but if you think you can take a dip in Corbara Lake, we have to disappoint you. It's not advisable and moreover ☺ forbidden).

The size of the campsite

The size of the pitches varies from 30 to more than 100 m2. In Italy, a campsite can call itself small-scale and only has to offer one sanitary building if it has a maximum of 36 pitches. Italian law suggests 4 people to a pitch, which means that we are allowed to accommodate a maximum of 144 people. Camping Il Falcone, however, attracts a lot of couples. So that means that in the thick of the high season we hardly reach that number of 144.

The groundplan of the campsite

Entering the campsite from topleft, you will immediately notice that the campsite is terraced and has a rather steep and bowl-shaped terrain, just like a Roman amphitheatre. Then your eyes will be attracted to a stunning view on Corbara Lake, and the trees completely surrounding the campsite. Below we'll give you a tour.

The western part: sun in the morning and afternoon

• Start on the road down from the reception. To your left (to your right in the groundplan) you will see the swimming-pool.
• Further down there are a few larger and smaller more or less terraced pitches used for tents (some pitches can be reached by a trailer-tent). If you want ask for our tractorservice and will come and give you a hand putting it into position. They all have sun in the morning and afternoon, but you cannot see the lake any more.
• Still further down, on the right there is a pitch with shade all day; to the left you see the sanitary building with stairs leading down to the pitches.

The southern (lower) part: large and mostly shady pitches

• Then we reach the bottom of the campsite with a P to park your car on the right and a number of larger pitches, most of them mainly shady because down here there are also stone oaks amongst the olive trees. The pitches are suitable for a camper, a caravan or a large tent. The ground is flat here. Two paths around the bend on your left lead towards the middle of the campsite. At the end of one of them there is a P. Back on the main track, the lower bungalow is down a short path on your right. It's immersed in green.
• Before you reach the bend there's a third path, which is in use as a P.

Eastern part: sun in the afternoon and evening

• Once through the bend, you're going up again. To your left are some larger, flat and shady pitches; the higher you get, the more terraced (and intimate) and sunny the pitches will become and the more you can see of the lake.
• Higher up on your right there are the most spectacular tent-only pitches that have the fabulous view. They (almost all) have sun in the afternoon and evening. It's a bit of a walk to the sanitary building from there, and for some pitches you will have to carry your gear up the stairs, but that's the price you will have to pay for feeling the emperor and empress of Umbria.
• At the top to your right you'll find the upper bungalow and to your left there are some smaller, intimate and sunny tent-only places, also with a lovely view. Then you will pass the reception area and the bar/terrace. It is time for a cappuccino or an excellent glass of white wine.

Two stone bungalows

If you are looking for a comfortable place to stay in the quiet atmosphere of a campsite, or if you are holidaying in spring or autumn, there are two stone bungalows for four persons ready for you.

Both are well-insulated but on demand you can ask for an aircon that can cool or heat (extra charges). Smoking inside the bungalows is not permitted. Although the interiors are very different in style, you will find them fully equipped for a short or longer stay. Of course that includes a fridge, a cooker and a sink.

Same level of equipment, different character

• The upper bungalow has a relatively modern interior with two separate bedrooms plus a bathroom and offers a splendid view on Corbara Lake;
• The lower bungalow is the more rustic one and has two rooms: one bedroom/livingroom/kitchen and a separate bathroom. It sits at the bottom of the terrain and is immersed in the woods, offering a maximum of privacy.

It is also good to know that we have two spacious tents, fully equipped with comfortable beds and a kitchen, that you can rent for any period.
